USB or Wi-Fi: which Android connection should you use? — illustrated guide
THE SHORT VERSION

A cable offers a predictable starting point. Wireless Debugging gives you room to move. Here is how to choose.

STEP 01

Start with a known-good connection

For USB, use a data-capable cable and approve Android debugging only on a computer you trust. For Wi-Fi, use the Wireless Debugging pairing flow on a compatible Android device and keep both devices on the same trusted network.

STEP 02

Make the connection predictable

Keep the phone awake during setup. If wireless pairing fails, check the network and current pairing details; guest networks or network isolation can prevent nearby devices from reaching each other.

Keep the owner in control

Agree on the task, explain changes before making them and end sharing when the work is done.

STEP 03

Keep a fallback ready

A wireless connection can be interrupted when the network changes. If it stops responding, return to the device list and reconnect, or use USB to continue the local task.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Start with one small task.

Download CaIoT RemoteViewer for the local Android toolkit, or book a demo to walk through the remote service that fits your situation. Check device compatibility and the current plan details before you begin.
